Canceling the Youth Making the Cut Camp...Not the Elite Making the Cut Camp

To the Canadian Elite Academy athletes who have registered for the Youth Making the Cut on August 26-29th.  If you are getting this email you would have registered your child for this event.  After extensive thought and planning, it has been determined that we will not be running this event.  The  factors leading up to this decision will be explained below.
·         The registrations for this group has not been great enough to justify running the event
·         The academy has had difficulty finding  coaches who have past experience and skills to coach this group at the level expected from the academy standards
·         The other group is going to be too large to be held in the single time slot so the courts will be needed for the Older age group.
Solutions to fix the decision to cancel the Youth Making the Cut Camp.
Solution one:
If your athlete is grade 7-8 and is a decent athlete and has confidence we can transfer their registration into the older group.  They will be younger than the majority of the Elite group but will still benefit from the experience.
Solution two:
Get a full refund and use the money to attend some of the Elite Academy sessions during the year and prepare them to attend the camp next year.

Youth Volleyball Program

The Canadian Elite Academy believes that not enough athletes play their sport in a fun, non-competitive situation.  In response to this belief, the academy would like to propose a solution within the Elementary schools in Saskatoon.
  • For the night to be successful it needs to be free for the participants.
  • Use high school Senior Volleyball players as supervisors and instructors (Christian Ethics Hours)
  • Target the grade 6-8 students in the Elementary Schools (Friday Nights 4-6 pm)
  • Each Elementary school will have 2-4 nights in the school year.
  • The informal games will be two hours ( 15 minutes setup and warm-up, 15-20 minutes skill instruction, gameplay, 10 minutes warm down and cleanup.)
  • The St. Joseph high school or Holy Cross feeder Elementary Schools would be the pilot program for the first year.

Why is this day so important for the Making the Cut Camp you say?
Every athlete who attends the camp will be given a shirt.

Friday is when I will be putting in the order for the t-shirt sizes.  When you register for the camp you give me your shirt size and I will make sure you have a shirt that will fit you.  After Friday I will order some sizes that I hope will fit that athlete who registers after the date.  If my crystal ball is working then you will have a shirt that will fit you, it is not I cannot guarantee the shirt will fit.

REGISTER NOW and your shirt will fit.

Volleyball Nations League 2020

August of 2020 is the Olympics.  The Volleyball Nations League in 2020 will be used by all teams as a warm-up for the Olympics.  I have heard via the grapevine that we will be hosting our Canadian Men's team and three other teams in Ottawa in June on the 5-7th weekend.  The Canadian Elite Academy has been tossing around the idea of taking a group of 12-15 athletes to Ottawa on this weekend to see these games.  The games happen on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night.  The format is a mini round-robin between the four teams, I have been lucky enough to see this event for the last two years and as I watched the games live, I was so impressed and thought the whole time that this would be so cool for aspiring volleyball players to see.  The fact that it is only two months away from the Olympics means all countries are going to be using the Nations League as a method of training for the Olympics and will bring the best players in the world to the event.  I will be going and taking my Son and thought I would open an invitation to the first 12-15 athletes who would like to attend.  The particulars such as where do we stay, how do we travel, what will we do when we get there will all be finalized when the group of travelers has been decided.
The event is held at the Arena at TD place at Landsdowne Park in Ottawa.
