Greeting, Academy Members!

Greetings, Academy Members!

As we turn the page on July, we're gearing up for an exhilarating August, a crucial period of preparation, dedication, and anticipation for the school volleyball season. We're here to assist every step of the way with our range of specialized training sessions.

First on the agenda is our selection of five comprehensive Making the Cut Camps.

Our outdoor camp runs from August 14th-17th from 1-4 pm each day. Catering to athletes from grades 4-6, 6-8, and 9-10, the camp will occur on the sand and grass courts at Father Robinson School. We're excited to have 33 athletes signed up for this unique outdoor training experience!
For those who lean towards the indoor courts, we have Making the Cut Indoor Camps scheduled for the last two weeks in August. Three of the four camps, including the Junior camps (August 21-24 and 28-31) and the Senior Camps, are fully booked. However, ten spots are available for the Senior High School Camp from August 21-24. This is the session for you if you aim to make the Senior High School Volleyball Team.

Last Call for Summer Volleyball Camp🏐☀️

Last Call: 11-13 Age Outdoor Volleyball Camp Starts Tomorrow

Limited Spots Available
The wait is over! Our Outdoor Volleyball Camp for players aged 11-13 starts tomorrow, Monday, July 10th, and runs through Thursday, July 13th, from 12  to 2 pm each day. This unique experience will introduce you to the thrilling world of volleyball, and it promises to be both fun and enriching.
Research and experience have shown that training in the sand significantly enhances your speed and agility once you transition to indoor courts. Sand courts train athletes to pick their feet up and move - an invaluable skill in volleyball. This four-day camp is designed with this same goal, taking you through various exercises in different weather conditions, including sun, wind, and rain.
The camp is perfect for those new to the sport who want to learn the basics in a stimulating, engaging environment. In addition to focusing on the fundamentals, we will introduce game formats similar to the "Royalty of the Courts" games, ensuring that learning is dynamic and enjoyable.
If you've never participated in an outdoor camp, you are in for a delightful surprise. Training amidst the elements - sand, sun, and wind - significantly improves agility, strength, and speed, mirroring training methods used in sun-soaked, beach-filled countries. This summer, we're bringing that tropical training vibe to Saskatchewan.
Remember, we are targeting boys and girls aged 11-13 for this camp. There are still a few spots left, so act quickly if interested. The forecast predicts warm weather, but rest assured. We have planned for breaks at the water park to balance training and relaxation.
Embrace this golden opportunity to learn, grow, and have fun this summer. Take your first step towards becoming a volleyball player, and join us in this extraordinary journey. We're excited to meet you on the court!

Unveiling the Unique Outdoor Positional SMLW Volleyball Camp

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Outdoor Positional SMLW Camp. Taking place from August 1-3, from 11 am to 2 pm daily, this camp offers an exceptional approach to advanced volleyball training. This camp sets itself apart by allowing participants to choose the position they wish to be trained in - a chance to specialize deeply and amplify your game.

Over three intensive days, participants will train on sand and grass courts, focusing on applying advanced skills in one of four positions - Setters, Middles, Liberos, or Wing Hitters. This camp bypasses the basics and delves into sophisticated skill applications, making it an ideal fit for athletes seeking to take their game to new heights.

At the heart of our camp's success is our top-tier coaching staff. We have four dedicated coaches, each responsible for one group, ensuring personalized attention and comprehensive guidance:

  • A Setters Coach managing the 12 setters
  • A Middle Coach guiding the 12 middle players
  • A Libero Coach overseeing the 12 liberos
  • A Wing Hitter Coach leading the 12 wing hitters (power and offside hitters)

Our camp's structure ensures an immersive, progressive learning experience. Each position group will work separately under the dedicated coach's tutelage on the first day. Day two sees the setters collaborating with the other groups, enhancing their skills in a diversified environment. The final day's structure fosters team synergy as groups of three from each position come together, forming well-rounded teams on each court.

The Outdoor Positional SMLW Camp offers an unmatched opportunity to refine your skills in your chosen position, strengthen your understanding of the game, and cultivate your agility on different terrains. We invite you to join us in this dynamic, enriching experience and elevate your volleyball journey.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity. Reserve your spot today.

Training in the sand, often called beach volleyball training, is commonly used as a preparatory method for indoor volleyball players. Here are a few reasons why people train in the sand to prepare for indoor volleyball:

  1. Enhanced Physical Fitness: Sand is a highly challenging and unstable surface to train on. The soft, shifting nature of the sand requires greater muscular effort and engages a wider range of muscle groups compared to a solid indoor court. Training in the sand helps improve strength, power, agility, balance, and cardiovascular endurance. These physical adaptations can give players an advantage when they transition back to the indoor court, where the surface is stable.

  2. Increased Vertical Jump: Jumping and landing in the sand is more demanding than on a solid surface due to the reduced stability. The softer and unstable nature of the sand forces athletes to generate more explosive power and control their movements effectively. As a result, training in the sand can help improve a player's vertical jump, which is crucial for blocking, attacking, and defensive maneuvers in both indoor and beach volleyball.

  3. Improved Balance and Stability: Sand training requires constant adjustments in body positioning and balance due to the shifting nature of the surface. This promotes the development of proprioception, which is the body's awareness of its position in space. Enhanced balance and stability skills acquired through sand training can improve court movement, body control, and quick reactions in indoor volleyball.

  4. Enhanced Stamina and Endurance: The resistance and energy expenditure in the sand are higher compared to indoor courts. The increased effort required to move through the sand challenges an athlete's stamina and cardiovascular fitness. Regular sand training sessions can help build endurance, allowing players to sustain a high level of performance for longer durations during indoor matches.

  5. Tactical Adaptations: Beach volleyball has certain strategic and tactical nuances that differ from indoor volleyball. The reduced number of players per team (two in beach volleyball) requires each player to assume a broader range of responsibilities, promoting all-around skills. Additionally, the sand's slower and more unpredictable nature can influence decision-making, forcing players to adapt their techniques and strategies. These adaptations can improve decision-making and versatility when returning to the indoor game.

While sand training offers numerous benefits, it's important to note that indoor and beach volleyball have distinct characteristics. Each version of the sport requires specific skills and strategies. While sand training can complement indoor volleyball preparation, it should not be seen as a complete substitute for indoor training.
