Making the Cut Memo One
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be sharing information to prepare the athletes for the Making the Cut Camp. If you have a friend that is interested in the camp get them to register soon as there are very limited spots left.
This is memo one share it with the attending athlete.
- Use your Academy Journal,! We want you to see you accomplish your goals and track your improvements. We also want to tailor our feedback to what YOU want to work on.
- We know that you all have been coached by different people in the past. But, this week at camp we may want you to try things a little bit differently than what you are used to. No coach is wrong, but we just ask that you try it our way for this camp.
- You will get out of camp what you put into it—so we ask that you come into the gym every day with 110% effort and a positive attitude. You WILL get better if you can bring those two things with you each day
- If you’re on time, you’re late. We ask that you arrive at least 10 min. prior to the start of the day to put on your shoes/kneepads/etc. and socialize with your peers
- Put distractions through you, rather than let them rule you. What we mean by that is that we want everyone to be focused on the task at hand so improvements can happen. It is hard to get better when you are thinking about what you are going to eat for lunch or what movie you are going to watch after camp is over.
- We need to know where you are at all times. If you need to see the trainer or run to the bathroom just let someone know. We plan to give you a lot of water breaks, so please don’t ask to grab a drink—unless it is an emergency.
- When we work in groups or partners, we challenge you to meet someone new! After all, winning and losing are only temporary, but friendships last forever. You never know who your new best friend could be!
- We only have 4 days of camp! Take advantage of the staff that is working here—they all have been around the game for a long time and have a great volleyball IQ. Ask questions or talk to them whenever you want! If you don’t understand something do not be afraid to ask. We are here to help you become the best volleyball player you can be.
- Be present. Do not worry about the upcoming season or your competition. Compete against yourself and keep getting better one rep at a time.
- We want you to have the best camp ever and learn lots of new skills! Don’t worry about the errors—focus on the things you are doing right.
Canceling the Youth Making the Cut Camp...Not the Elite Making the Cut Camp
To the Canadian Elite Academy athletes who have registered
for the Youth Making the Cut on August 26-29th.
If you are getting this email you would have registered your child for
this event. After extensive thought and
planning, it has been determined that we will not be running this event. The
factors leading up to this decision will be explained below.
·
The registrations for this group has not been
great enough to justify running the event
·
The academy has had difficulty finding coaches who have past experience and
skills to coach this group at the level expected from the academy standards
·
The other group is going to be too large to be held
in the single time slot so the courts will be needed for the Older age group.
Solutions to fix the decision to cancel the Youth Making the
Cut Camp.
Solution one:
If your athlete is grade 7-8 and is a decent athlete and has
confidence we can transfer their registration into the older group. They will be younger than the majority of the
Elite group but will still benefit from the experience.
Solution two:
Get a full refund and use the money to attend some of the
Elite Academy sessions during the year and prepare them to attend the camp next
year.

Youth Volleyball Program
The Canadian Elite Academy believes that not enough athletes play their sport in a fun, non-competitive situation. In response to this belief, the academy would like to propose a solution within the Elementary schools in Saskatoon.
- For the night to be successful it needs to be free for the participants.
- Use high school Senior Volleyball players as supervisors and instructors (Christian Ethics Hours)
- Target the grade 6-8 students in the Elementary Schools (Friday Nights 4-6 pm)
- Each Elementary school will have 2-4 nights in the school year.
- The informal games will be two hours ( 15 minutes setup and warm-up, 15-20 minutes skill instruction, gameplay, 10 minutes warm down and cleanup.)
- The St. Joseph high school or Holy Cross feeder Elementary Schools would be the pilot program for the first year.
