📅 August

Camp Month: We're offering our Premier Making the Cut Camps!

Unfortunately, we had to cancel the Making the Cut Camps for Elementary school boys due to low registration. We understand this is disappointing and hope to see more interest in the future.

August Leagues: To help cover the cost of gyms, we're offering two four-day leagues from August 12 to 15.

  • Junior Girls League: August 12-15, 12:00 - 2:00 PM
  • Senior Girls League: August 12-15, 8:00-10:00 AM and 4:00-6:00 PM

With no coaching, these leagues focus on gameplay to help you increase your touches and get ready for tryouts!

  • Senior High School Camp: August 26-29 (Girls sold out, Boys spots available). Girls who still need to register can join the boys' camps. Junior boys' net height matches senior girls', ideal for working on your attacking; senior boys' higher net is great for defence development.

Elevate Your Game with the Canadian Elite Academy

Clarification of Sessions

Whether You Think You Can, or Think you Can't You're Right!

The Making the Cut Camp

Established in 2017, the Making the Cut Camp was created to help athletes prepare for their school team tryouts. Traditionally, we held combined sessions for both boys and girls, offering Junior and Senior High school camps in the same week. This year marks an exciting change: we're introducing separate camps for boys and girls at the Elementary, Junior, and Senior High School levels, bringing our total offerings to six comprehensive camps.

Current Camp Status:

  • Junior and Senior Girls' Camps: Sold Out
  • Elementary Girls' Camp: Almost Sold Out

Girls are welcome to join the boys' camps if their respective camps are full, but please note that the net height will correspond to the boys' camp standards.

At the Canadian Elite Academy, we prioritize quality coaching. For example, during last week's skill session, we maintained a four athlete to one coach ratio with 23 athletes and six coaches. For the Making the Cut camps, we will ensure at least a ten athlete to one coach ratio, often exceeding this standard.

We are committed to providing opportunities for all athletes, including boys. Although we currently lack enough registrations for a boys' Making the Cut camp, we are actively working to change this. We initially built our mailing list to over 1200 families through word of mouth, and we encourage all registered boys to spread the word so we can run Elementary, Junior, and Senior High School Camps for boys.

Don't Miss this Camp
It's Hard to Beat A Person Who Never Gives Up!

Our most exclusive and successful training session, the School Day Academy, has set a new benchmark at the Canadian Elite Academy. We were privileged to have approximately 24 dedicated athletes who pushed their limits and increased their skill levels through rigorous training, dedicating five hours a week for several months. (September and October 2024)

Athletes are selected for this training session based on their readiness to work hard, their understanding of what it means to be elite, and their potential to lead and be team players. Head coach Darren Cannell and trainer Toako Chie Imamura will guide selected athletes as if they were part of a team, focusing on the skills and mindset necessary to be valuable team members.

Training sessions are scheduled to allow athletes to maintain their school team commitments. Training will be held at Henk Reys Soccer Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 pm and Wednesdays from 1-2 pm, enabling athletes to return to their schools for team practices.

How to Adjust School Schedules for Training:

  • Schedule a spare in the afternoon
  • Apply for a "special" credit for academy time (one special credit allowed per high school year)
  • Take an online class
  • Check existing credits (most high school students in Saskatchewan graduate with more than the required 24 credits)
  • Schedule both spares in the first semester
  • Consult with a school counselor for more options

Application Process:

Interested athletes must complete an application form and submit a highlight reel of their skills. No professional reel is needed; a simple video demonstrating your skills will suffice. If you're passionate about volleyball, this is your chance to shine.

Message from Dr. Darren Cannell:

"I am thrilled to work with Toako Chie Imamura during the School Day Academy. Few coaches match Chie's talent for elevating athletes to the next level. Don't miss this opportunity."

Darren has coached club volleyball for two decades. He was the president of the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association for ten years and a Volleyball Canada Director. He has coached provincial teams, CANAM teams, and national teams.

Darren played five years of university volleyball in Ontario (he was nominated all-Ontario), was a senior club player on the beach, and was on the master’s national team.

Chie as a player in 1990 played in the Asian Junior Women’s Volleyball Championship and won gold. She was awarded the best setter award. In 1991 she played in Women’s U20 World Championship and won bronze. She was awarded the best setter award. In 1990 and 1994 she played for the University of Tsukaba Women’s Volleyball Team. Tsukaba University was one of the top teams in Japan. In 1987 the Tsukaba University came to Saskatoon to play against the University of Saskatchewan and again in 1990 and Chie came with them. In 1994 Chie came to Saskatoon to be an assistant coach at the University of Saskatchewan. She has since that time coached Club volleyball, High school volleyball, Community volleyball and done individual practice in the province. By many, she is considered to be one of the best setter coaches in the province.

Skills sessions and private lessons will conclude at the end of this month. If you're considering attending, do so soon, as August will be dedicated to the Making the Cut camp. This camp covers all volleyball skills and offers extensive practice opportunities. Even if you're not planning to try out for a school team, you'll be amazed at how much your game improves.
