The Weekly Newsletter

Are we having fun Yet!!!!

This past week was so enjoyable for me as a coach.  A lot of the athletes are working on their 2-4 months of training and we are seeing such an improvement.  The most shocking part for me as the coach is how much fun I am having while doing the Jump training.  I am using the stuff from my first two degrees (Physical Education).  A fun mixture of weights, physical tools, electronics, and lots of communication is starting to see some great improvement.

The month of March was strange as we filled some sessions and then had people locked down due to their exposure to others who had COVID.  The result is session numbers changing from week to week.  The solution is to alter the cost to register almost daily.  Hence you will see the cost for the sessions changing.

This has created a situation that is new and that is the opportunity for athletes to try the School Day Academy, Jump Training Sessions, and the Artist Elite Academy session without having to sign up for a whole month.

We are looking to start the Basketball Elite Academy sessions.  We would like to run a School Day Academy for April.   It will be a twice-a-week session with Game days on Fridays.  We have approached our stable of Basketball Coaches to see if anyone is available to teach these sessions.  If anyone knows of a senior coach who would be interested in doing the twice-a-week one-hour session in April, get them to contact me.

My art classes are interesting for me as it is one of my passions and the number of face-to-face artists who join us during the weekly Thursday is limited but we do stream the session on YouTube and Facebook and have anywhere from 40 to 400 viewers.  I am hoping the number of face-to-face artists increase so we can continue offering this aspect of these sessions.  We do offer the opportunity for people to sign up for a single session or a whole month.  Hope to see you soon virtual or physically in our studio.

Two of our four Beach sessions are sold out and only 6 spots left in the Advanced and more space in the Basic which tells me we have a lot of returning athletes to our sessions.
Although the summer camp sessions are a long way off we do have some people registering already and we look forward to having another successful batch of camps this summer.

Our Merchandise has been taken over by Jessica Leith as Darren Cannell is not very good at it and we would like to welcome Jessica’s expertise and energy to the job.  The first item we are introducing is the Jump Survivor series.  Anyone who has taken and survived the Month long jump training is welcome to purchase one of these.  We do not mail out products you can just pick them up at your next session.  We look forward to the ideas and shirts Jessica will bring to the job.  If you have any ideas or comments send them my way and I will forward them to the new Merchandise lady.

"If kids are always looking to their parents for approval, they're not competing and they're not having fun — they're working on pleasing their parents instead.
I don't want my kids to please me. I want them to please themselves. Sitting in the stands and after the game, my job as a parent is to let my kids know that I believe in them no matter how they perform." - Joe Girardi

February Ends, March Begins

Some sessions are full and others are close.

The end of February and the start of March.  Looking back on February, it went by quickly but was a good month for the academy.  Our School Day Academy month-long sessions were sold out as well as the month-long jump training sessions.  Each day I looked forward to working with the athletes which speaks volumes about the type, effort level, and skill level expended by the athletes.  We also started the Artist Elite Academy sessions again, those were interesting and we streamed live on Facebook and Youtube.  The level of artists was very impressive.

March is starting on Monday and I know every month from here on, Covid or no Covid will just keep getting better.  We have many of the February athletes returning and I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with those athletes and the new athletes.
Many of the sessions are full or close to being full but go to the website and check it out and we will see you on the courts

.

There is a new session added in March which will be well attended and I am looking forward to running them.  There will be a 6-hours-spread-over-two-weeks Mental Classroom Training Session.  This session will help Volleyball players with the mental aspect of the sport.  These will be taught in the team room at the IceBox Center

We have added new Sessions!

As the COVID restrictions continue the Academy is attempting to provide an opportunity for the players to train and the artists to create.  The restrictions only allow 8 participants per group and have resulted in almost all of the sessions being full.  From a business point of view, this is great news but it does mean that some athletes are not able to get into the sessions that they wish.  Register early and make sure you get into the sessions.

Volleyball During the Breaks

We have added Volleyball sessions during the February break and the Easter break.  We have added School Day Academy sessions in March and April. (Some of them are already full).

Any skill level artists invited to these sessions

We have added Artist Elite Academy sessions for March and April.  These sessions are for artists of all ages and all skill levels.  Come and learn to draw on a tablet.
Below is the image we created last week.   Join us, it is so cool what we are able to create.

Newsletter Volume 5 Issue 4

End of the Month

Next group of Sessions

This newsletter will be a quick summary of the next activities based on the COVID restrictions.  The IceBox training center has been great in helping us navigate the issues and will allow us to restart the School Day Academy sessions, Jump training, and the artist academy sessions.
The limited number of 8 participants means many of our sessions sell out and we want to take this moment to thank all participants for their interest in the academy.

Drawing on the Tablet

The Thursday night Artist Elite Academy sessions from 6-8 pm in the IceBox conference center will teach all age artists how to transfer their skills to a tablet.  The experienced artists will be amazed at how great the tablet is to create art.  The new artists can work on the fundamentals of creating art using the tablets.  Darren’s for 15 years of his teaching career taught high school art and has taught and used many different mediums to create art.  In the last 12 years, he has concentrated on digital art and been recognized for his works.  Drawing on the tablet is a great solitary hobby that Darren has done to relax during his downtime.  If you are seeking a skill that can be done anywhere, is relaxing, and allows you to create during these days.  Think about registering for the sessions as the spots are limited and you will find the face to face session very relaxing and a fun experience.
