What is happening at the academy this week!

What is Happening this Week at the Academy?

We are going into the fourth week of November

So far, the month has just been going on, and the weather has been getting colder and colder, but volleyball is an indoor sport, making it a fantastic sport to play in Saskatchewan in the winter.
I'll let you know what is coming up this week at the Academy. We have our typical month-long sessions happening, and most of them are sold out, making it an exhilarating month.

The prices of any of the month-long sessions that have space left in them have been adjusted to reflect the number of sessions left in the month.  Try them out for the last two weeks if you are interested.

Week three in Novemberrrr!.

Week two in Novemberrrr!.

Some months we are happy volleyball is indoors!

Welcome to Saskatchewan in the winter. Week two of November saw the weather change significantly. The weather caused us to reevaluate the chances of people being able to make sessions during snowstorms. Thank you to all who ventured out to the sessions in these driving conditions.
The third week of November brings new sessions and exciting opportunities for athletes.
We have our  NexGen sessions, the Setters,  Fundamentals and Libero, Hitters, the month-long serve training, both advanced and basic and the month-long jump train. Thank you so much to the coaches who have chosen to teach these subsequent GEN sessions as they have become trendy. However, it is not too late in the month to have new registrations if they are not full. I will adjust the price to allow athletes to register for them in November's last couple weeks.
This week we have the single skill sessions as well, we have advanced and basic blocking sessions, and the same goes for serving sessions. Register early, as serving sessions are filling. Do not bypass the blocking session because you are a new player to volleyball, as blocking is often overlooked until athletes can get way above the net's height. The skills taught in the Blocking session will assist you in understanding net play as a new player and is a precious key to becoming a good volleyball player. We also have this week at that on Friday gameplay. Gameplay is becoming increasingly popular as athletes look for a location to try out the skills they are learning in the other sessions. Please register early to ensure we have enough coaches at the sessions to support the number of athletes.

Second week in November

Second Week in November

Everything is selling out...Register Early

A Tip When Registering

When completing a session registration, ensure you add an email that you check, as it is how we inform athletes of changes in location, times and dates. We had a coach this week test positive for COVID, so it was necessary to let athletes know the day before that a session was to be cancelled. This approach worked fine for some of the athletes, but for others who did not check their email, a different way of contacting them might have worked. So, we went back to the registrations to use text messaging for emails, but some people did not enter a phone number. It was impossible to contact everyone, so we went old school and put a note on the gym door.   To summarize, ensure we have an active email and a phone number to contact you.  The Best Way to contact Darren Cannell when he is travelling is via email.  If you want to talk to him, leave a number via email, and he will call you.

Team Private Lessons

The academy approaches team lessons under the pricing and the approach used for athlete private lesson format. The price is 149 dollars for an hour per team. The maximum number of athletes is determined by the registered players on the school or club team. The team coaches assess the choice of session topic before the day of the session. Many past team sessions happened during the team's already scheduled practice times. This allows the academy to keep the cost down, and the price is the same if the academy is expected to find gym time for the team. The academy coach for the session is done in conjunction with the team coaches but often is determined by the availability of academy coaches. The academy often tries to assign the best coach for the topic or skill taught.    If you schedule it outside of your regular practice time, then we will book the gym wherever we can find the gym time. Most teams have a gym already booked and a normal time for practice, and we have found that more athletes will have set up their other activities around this time. Fewer athletes can make it when a team books it as extra practice time. So most of the time, we just come to a regular practice time, and then we charge the 149 dollars. When the academy has to find and book gym time, we add the gym rental cost on top of the 149, and if it ends up in Warman at the Legend Center, then we also charge mileage.
We appreciate your interest in allowing the academy coaches the opportunity to work with teams and hope we can together build better players in our province.

Important information about the future of the Academy!

Important Information about the Academy!

The next phase of the Academy

The Canadian Elite Academy is entering a new phase.  Since 2017, the Canadian Elite Academy has been a corporation owned and run by myself (Dr. Darren Cannell).  In March 2022, I decided to change the corporation to a non-profit corporation.  The reason for restructuring the Academy is that my personal life has changed.  In June, my wife retired as an Assistant Principal for the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School system.
We will be doing a lot of travelling starting in November, which will hinder my ability to be the head coach for the Academy.
The change to a non-profit will allow us to create a board of directors coming together to help with decisions making, oversight, strategic planning and financial planning, creating the next stage of the Canadian Elite Academy.
I will still be running the administration and day-to-day operation of coordinating sessions and coach placement from a distance as we travel.  I will miss the opportunity to coach sessions, but I will be back in the gym when we are back in the province.   As we travel, I will be coaching and visiting Academies in other countries to learn how they do things and bring the best practices back to our Canadian Elite Academy.

I invite anyone interested in being on the board for the Canadian Elite Academy and helping us build the next phase of our non-profit.  We seek parents of athletes, lawyers, coaches, people with experience in non-profit, bookkeepers, accountants, people with expertise in sports governance and anyone with a vision.
All my Successful ventures in the past were done by surrounding myself with groups of talented people.  Since 2017, the Canadian Elite Academy has been built the same way.  I surrounded myself with the best coaches in the province, and we have created something ready to move into its next stage.  If you want to be part of the future growth of the Academy, drop me an email.
